Animal-free egg protein startup Onego Bio takes one step closer to opening up traditional egg market

In 2023, rising egg prices provide an opportunity for alternative protein companies to show they can compete with traditional egg manufacturers. Onego Bio, a food biotechnology company based in Finland, utilizes the fungus Trichoderma and sophisticated fermentation technology to produce an animal-free protein alternative called Bioalbumen. Maija Itkonen, co-founder and chief executive officer of Onego Bio (pronounced on-eh-go), co-founded the company in 2022 with Kristopher Landowski, a precision fermentation expert from the Finnish Technical Research Center (VTT).
