On Monday, Soligenix (NASDAQ: SNGX) received orphan drug designation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the active ingredient in its MarVax vaccine, a recombinantly expressed subunit protein vaccine against Marburg virus (MARV) glycoprotein, for the prevention of marburg virus infection and post-exposure prophylaxis. In addition to a seven-year period of market exclusivity following final FDA approval, orphan drug designation allows Soligenix to capitalize on a wide range of financial and regulatory advantages, including
